Countdown: May Contest!

CONTEST CLOSED!

I think I said I'd do this yesterday, but since it was a holiday here in the States, I didn't. I did, however, have a yummy dinner of steamed shrimp and corn on the cob, and I chased it down with the last two episodes of "True Blood" Season One.

Eventually I'll post my thoughts on the series as a whole (as well as my new crush on Sam Trammel). Needless to say, though, I've got vampires on the brain, so this contest is going to revolve around vampires. And it'll be an easy one, I swear.

First, the prizes! Keeping vampires in mind, I thought hard about a fun, vamp-oriented prize, and I decided on books. We all need more books, right? But for added fun, the winner gets a choice.

CHOICE #1: The first three Southern Vampire Mysteries books, by Charlaine Harris (Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas, Club Dead).

CHOICE #2: The first three Night Huntress books, by Jeaniene Frost (Halfway to the Grave, One Foot in the Grave, At Grave's End).

Both series feature awesome heroines, humor, drama, and varying degrees of sexiness. Plus hot vampires!

So what must one do in order to be eligible for this prize? Leave a comment on this post answering the question below, and you'll be entered into a random drawing. You have until Thursday evening (May 28) to comment.

The Question: IF YOU COULD BE A VAMPIRE IN ANY AUTHOR'S FICTIONAL WORLD, BOUND BY THEIR VAMPIRE RULES, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

My own answer: I'd like to be a vampire in Molly Harper's NICE GIRLS DON'T HAVE FANGS world. They are starting to mainstream into society, and they can go outside in the daytime with, like, SPF 500 sunscreen.

How about you?

And don't forget: the winner of Countdown: May! is automatically entered into an October drawing for an advance copy of THREE DAYS TO DEAD!

Dresden's White Court Vampires. Cool digs, sexy enough to make Lilith jump your bones in a split second and your only vulnerability (besides massive amounts of damage) is True Love. Tragic, Romantic and Hella Sexy!

Oh and no fear of the Sun, which makes that killer suntan your sporting that much hotter.

I'd go with Michelle Rowen's vampires from Bitten & Smitten. They can go out in the daylight, which is nice even though I'd probably choose to live mostly at night anyway. They only have to deal with hunters in rotating shifts (I haven't read the later books, so I don't know if that changes) And they have a decent community to boot. All in all a pretty nice existence.

I would have to say J.F. Lewis’ Void City series.

Depending on how high up on the vampiric class ladder you are, you’re damn near indestructible. Sex, money and nice cars seem to be a given for undead, and the Void City police department is always ready to keep your nocturnal activities hush-hush ... For a price, that is. (Fang Fees, folks. Everybody’s got to pay ‘em.)

Also, and I could be mistaken, I don’t think I’d have to change my zip code! (I think I'm living in Void City.)

I'd love to be a Stoker's Dracula... well, not actually Dracula, but Dracula-like, lol. He can shapeshift, doesn't explode into a fiery mass in sunlight, has hypnotic powers, and super-strength. Sounds pretty damn fun to me. :)

I would want to be like Ivy from Kim Harrison's Hollows series. I like the idea of a living vampire who can walk in sunlight.

I'm more of a werewolf aficionado, but if I were a vampire, I think I'd rather be an "Anne Rice" style vamp (from what I remember - it's been awhile). Lurking mysteriously about in the shadows at night, constantly tormented and dark, old enough to be both cynical and romantic (in a gothic sort of way. I'm a sucker (uh, no pun intended?) for old-school vamps.

Hi Kelly! Great to meet you. So looking forward to your series!

I need to get that DVD of the Season One of True Blood, unless HBO has re-run them this summer. I don't watch much TV so we just got back our HBO so hoping!

I would pick Kathryn Smith's Brotherhood of The Blood series. These books take place at the same time in 1899 but in different parts of the world of 6 Templar Knights who mistakenly drank from the Blood Grail and became vampires, one who commits suicide while the 5 go on and tell their stories as well as their battle to protect each of their brotherhoods. So much unique and to love about this series! I hope I explained this well :)

It will be sad these are over, last book is out now. (She does tho now have a Urban Fantasy series book one in Dream Warriors that are Demons I believe!) So more to read and more mentioned here for me to check out before yours is out!

I'd love to be in the contest for ARC of THREE DAYS TO DEAD. Thanks!

You stole my answer!!

I'd go with the vampires in Karen Chance's Dorina Basarab Series. Sure, it's a relatively new series but they seem pretty cool and Dorina kicks butt!

Upon pondering this question I realized that I have not read nearly as many vampire books as I would've thought. So, at the risk of getting fruit thrown at me, I would say I'd like to be a vampire from the Twilight world. Mainly because they can go out during the day, and they sparkle in the sunlight, which I think personally, would be pretty awesome. Also, they never sleep, and since I'm an insomniac, I think I would adjust to that just fine.

I came to your blog via Fangs Fur Fey and I have to say I'm really looking forward to reading your book!

I think I would have to go with the Cullens. Yes Twilight-a-rific but seriously no rules except keep the secret, no mandatory sleep 'o the dead, and they can be outside in the right conditions.

It's awesome to see so many varied responses! You guys have given me a handful of new authors to try out, too, with your choices.

I'm thinking I'd have to be a Cullen as well. Got all the good things, like sex, unimaginable beauty and agelessness, no need for sleep, and baseball... what more could a girl want?

Yikes. And now I've discovered I don't read as many vampire books as I thought... definitely more of a shapeshifter fan.

I'd probably be another Kim Harrison vampire. The thought of being a living vampire is cool. You get the vampire instincts, increased physical attributes but are still technically alive and with a soul until you die. Then I just wish I'd die twice so I wouldn't have to worry about being a true undead.
