The new movie was frakkin' awesome! And I say this as someone who did not particularly like the original series. I got started with The Next Generation, and became addicted through Deep Space Nine. And yes, I admit it--I'm one of twelve people who loved Enterprise.
But this movie just rocked. It rocked its cast, its concept, its music, and its fans, without excluding non-fans. The nods were awesome--lots of fun things in there for fans to enjoy, from the first "red shirt" to "Admiral Archer's prized beagle."
Eric Bana makes a truly bad-ass Romulan.
Because life is full of oxymorons...and writers know this more than most.

Me, too Kelly! I loved it! Long ago, before the time of tv remotes, as the youngest, I WAS the tv remote. My station was (not in keeping with the 'ruin your eyes' thinking) in front of the tv to the right, so I could turn the knob at my dad's behest. It was in syndication by then, but I loved Star Trek, Space 1999, Buck Rogers...then I turned into a total Star Wars geek. hee hee. Glad you liked it and caught the nods. My fella had to have all that explained to him afterward.
The creative choices were spot-on. Instead of remaking it, they did a very smart reboot of the franchise.
