It's happened again, folks.
This time I can't say it's as much of a surprise, but Pocket has decided not to pick up the next title in the MetaWars superhero series. So for the handful of you who've been clambering for Gage's book....um....maybe some day?
The trouble with promising to one day self-publish more MetaWars is time. I still have a book due to Berkley for my werewolf trilogy. I still want to finish up the Dreg City books. I have more ideas than I can shake a stick at, as well as other projects that are keeping me quite busy. I don't know when I'll be able to fit Gage's book into my schedule--and that's just writing it. Never mind the production aspect of self-publishing a book.
So for now, the MetaWars series is, if not over, certainly on an extended hiatus.
I'm sorry I didn't do better by these characters and by my loyal fans.

I absolutely hate when this happens. I'm sad as a fan, but mostly I'm sad that you think you didn't do right by the characters. I think you wrote a fantastic, original series and if others don't feel that way or never gave it a shot, then it's their loss ultimately. Granted that's why we are all losing now, but don't ever feel like you didn't give us something great. Maybe someday we'll get Gage's story and I'll cross my fingers for that, but if it doesn't happen, I'm satisfied fully with what we did get. Thank you for writing this series.
Hi Paris,
You have no idea how much it means to me to read your comments. It's hard not to take the demise of two series in a row personally and to wonder what I did wrong. I don't have any answers, but it means the world to hear from readers like you and to know that at least a few folks have enjoyed their time with Trance, Gage, and the rest.
I'd hoped to take this world and these characters much further. MetaWars has been in my head for almost twenty years, and it's sad to put it to rest--for now. Maybe one day I'll continue the story.
Thank YOU for reading and for your support over the years. :)
I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to another one of your series. I thought that your idea was completely original and well written. I feel the reason your books don't make it is not your fault. There could almost be any reason why they don't sell. It's a bit like the TV series Firefly. It didn't air at the right time or in the right order but was fantastic and not discovered by many until it was too late. In a sense I think that is what happened with your series.
Anyway, I hope that we some day get a chance to hear from Gage. I enjoyed him as a character and wish that I could learn more about him. If you decide to self publish I will be there to buy your book. If not, I'm glad that you explored as much as you could. It was such an interesting cast of diverse characters and it's sad to see it end.
I wish you the best with your new series and I want you to know that I will be there to read it through to the end.
I think Katie is definitely on to something Kelly. You're probably just ahead of your time. There are so many tv shows and books that people really didn't get or even try when they first came out, like Firefly (such a shame). I mean, look how long it took the Vampire Diaries series to get a real avid reader base. I read them when they first came out, but no one else I know did and those books were out for almost 20 years before they became popular and were optioned for TV.
The media business is so fickle and strange, especially now with the internet and e-books and digital copies of movies and cds. I know it's hard not to take this personally, but as a long time fan, I can assure you, what you've done is great and I cannot wait to read more of your work, no matter what it is and what format it comes in!
Katie,
Thanks so much for your comments. I'm one of the folks who still curse FOX for killing Firefly (I adore that show!), so that comparison made me smile. And thank you so much for reading and for your support.
I don't know what's next for me or for the Metas, but it's great knowing a few folks will be there for more stories. Thank you!
I haven't read this series yet. It is on my LONG list of books to read. But as I've read every Dreg City book I have no doubt that the books are wonderful and I will consume them in a day as I did the others. You are a brilliant writer and I'm saddened that this has caused you to doubt yourself even a trifle.
