I wanted to drop a reminder that I'll be at Farpoint this Saturday, February 18th, for most of the day. I'll be part of the Writer's Workshop at 1pm, as well as the Supernatural in Science Fiction panel at 3pm. I will most likely wander the lobby for a few hours before and after, so if you're there and see me, say hello!
If you don't see me, I am probably busy stalking Kristen Bauer, aka "True Blood's" Pam, who is a guest this weekend. *grin*

February Appearances
Now that I'm thinking about it, just about a year ago this weekend I was doing my very first book signing up in Newark, DE. So much has happened since then that it's kind of mind boggling.
We're in the middle of winter here, and even though February is the shortest month, it always seems longest to me. Probably because it's the last month before warm weather starts (not to mention Valentine's Day, which I think should be renamed Singles Awareness Day), and by March I'm itching to spend time outside again.
So if you're looking for something to spice up the winter doldrums, I'll be out and around a bit in February.
February 12, I'll be doing a joint signing with Stacey Graham at the Borders in Winchester, Virginia. We'll be there 2 pm. Stacey has a story in the fun zombie anthology HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE, so come out and see us!
Also! I'm popping my convention guest cherry! February 18-20, I'll be at Farpoint, a multi-media/multi-fandom convention at the Crown Plaza hotel outside of Baltimore. I've attended this con in the past as a member, and this is my first year as a guest! I'm really excited to be there (and to see my name on a list of Confirmed Guests that includes Peter David and AC Crispin).
And you know who else is a guest at Farpoint this year? Tahmoh Penikett.

I will resist the urge to stalk him...

Linkage Round-Up and Stuff
Two more weeks! Fourteen days! Wheee!!!!!
Bitten By Books hosts weekly polls over on their site, and this week AS LIE THE DEAD is nominated in their Best Paranormal/UF Cover for July 2010 poll. There's some stiff competition and lots of lovely covers, but if you have a moment to stop over and vote, please do. Several fellow Reluctant Adults (Dakota Cassidy, Stacia Kane, Nicole Peeler) are also nominated!
I was also interviewed by the talented and very funny Shennandoah Diaz here on her blog. I talked about writing a series, plotting, and the future of Dreg City.
There's also a fantastic review of THREE DAYS TO DEAD up at Book Lovers, INC. It's wonderful to know that even eight months later, folks are still reading, enjoying, and talking about the book. I also have an interview coming up on their site on July 19th, so keep an eye out for that.
For anyone who followed my #ShoreLeave tweets this weekend, much fun was had. I met some really cool people, networked a bit, and even signed two copies of TDTD for the con bookseller! But the best part of the weekend? Three words: Edward James Olmos.
SO SAY WE ALL!

Moving Again...plus other stuff
So anyone who follows me on Twitter might have seen my hashtag #inpackinghell. What does this mean? It means I'm moving house again.
No, it's not a false alarm like last summer. Nor is it a move across state lines like the summer before. It will be a move up the highway, to a town closer to my day job, my sister and her family, and to more than one grocery store (ah, bliss!). While I will miss the small, historic town I've made my home for the last two years (neighborhood dogs who come up to your door, a mailman who knows my name, antique shops right around the corner), I'm looking forward to the change.
This move will also mark the first time I'll be living completely alone (not counting my kitty). I've always had a roommate (or several, counting college), so having a place of my own will be quite the change. I've already found a nice, affordable apartment in a quiet complex, complete with a pool and weight room (the complex, not the apartment). The biggest task now is sorting all of my stuff, boxing up things that I can temporarily store at my parents house, and packing the stuff that's coming with me.
Have you ever divided up a household that's been together for seven years? Minus the emotional angst, it feels a bit like a divorce. Yes, my current roomie and I have lived together for seven years. I made a long list of things that I have, things that I don't have, and it's a strange and scary list. For example, I have two coffee makers, but I don't own a vacuum cleaner. I have a tool box full of stuff, but no phone for land lines.
Also? I have a lot of books. A lot. I've already packed up nine banana boxes worth, and I could probably fill at least five more. My arms hurt just thinking about carrying those up two flights of stairs....
All this doesn't happen until July 31. And between now and then, I have to launch AS LIE THE DEAD (five more weeks, my pretties!), which will include a lineup of guest blogs, interviews, and giveaways. I also have to pack and clean the house, and keep working on Evy #4. And we're reorganizing the stock room at the day job next week, so that's going to be exhausting.
Busy, busy, busy.
But I'm enjoying it. I'd much rather have Teh Busy than Teh Bored.
What else? For anyone in the Baltimore area, I'll be at Shore Leave, July 9-11, so if you see me be sure to say hello.
I've also committed to Dragon*Con again this year. Four words: Jim Butcher, Sam Trammell.

Yum.
Check back later this week for a new giveaway to celebrate the release of AS LIE THE DEAD, and to mourn my birthday and the loss of my twenties!

Home Again
And very sad about this. I had so much fun at Dragon*Con! I am definitely going back next year.
Will, of course, post details and pix as soon as my brain un-fogs. The lack of sleep and deluge of bad food has made me somewhat fuzzy-brained today. Thank God I don't have to work the day job.
I think my cat missed me. She's been attached to my hip since I got home last night. Silly thing.
Coffee IV-drip, STAT!

Away for the Weekend
As if anyone is surprised. I'm leaving early tomorrow to head to my parents' house. They've lovingly volunteered to drive me 3 hours to the airport, so I can fly to Atlanta, GA for DRAGON*CON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ye-haw! I'm am both excited and terrified. Thank God there are bars in the hotels. If anyone is about, be sure to stop by the New Blood panel on Friday morning and say hello!
There will be many pictures and updates when I get home. Well, maybe the day after I get home. So probably Tuesday.
Peace!

Shore Leave Recap
Home again.
Shore Leave 31 was a blast, as always. I arrived fairly early on Friday, so I was able to lounge by the pool and read for a bit. Over the weekend, I finished reading one book and started another, so yay! Spent a lot of time Saturday bouncing around to different writing-specific panels. For the last few years, I've been attending a Screen (and Other) Writing Workshop lead by tie-in and comics author Howard Weinstein, and it was really cool to speak with him afterward. Mostly to say thanks for the advice over the years and tell him about my book. It's awesome to be able to tell someone that their workshop has affected you in a meaningful way. So thank you, again, Howie!
And having my niece Jade around was cool. She was a big hit with people. She's such a happy baby. And having a stroller helps get you through the autograph line quicker. Hehe. She was quite taken with actor Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager).

Saturday night they turn the ballroom into a kind of techno dance club called Ten-Forward, and there's a cash bar. I spent the night dancing with a Klingon. Yes. I did. It was a lot of fun (*waves at To's*), if somewhat exhausting.
If you're a SF fan, and you ever get a chance to see Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips speak together, DO IT. They are hysterical, and their comic timing is genius.
Over the weekend, I also finished writing another book. I think I've teased this WIP a bit, but I'll do a longer post on it later in the week. More the process than the contents.
How else had a good weekend? Bueller?

DragonCon
The humidity is here, and it's only May 1st. Ick. Not to mention the high pollen alerts. Every morning, my poor car is dusted yellow. Double ick.
I have fun news! Thanks to the awesomeness that is Kat Richardson, I have a room for DragonCon! I am thrilled to be able to attend this year. Working in retail for so many years, I've never been in a position to ask off on Labor Day weekend (traditionally a busy weekend for shoppers). Now that I'm a lesser peon, I asked my manager about getting the time and he said no problem!
DragonCon! Have you seen the guest list? Authors, actors, and entertainers, OH MY!
Now comes the big decision: fly or road trip it to Atlanta. Road trips are less fun alone, I admit, but I have so much fun thinking and plotting while I drive. Plus I've flown in one plane in my life and it freaked me out. Hmm...

In other news, my cover is starting to pop up on Amazon and other sites. Woot!

FlyCon 2009
If you've never attended an online convention, now's the time!
FlyCon is an international, round-the-clock LiveJournal-based SF/F convention. Panels will be running all weekend, at all hours. A schedule can be found here (complete with multiple time zones).
Even if you can't attend them live, be sure to check out the archived threads. I've already skimmed a few, and there's lots of great information to be found.
